Over GH¢2.3m Raised for Helicopter Crash Victims’ Children as Businesses Step In

Contributions to the Children’s Support Fund, established to guarantee the welfare of the children of victims of the August 6 helicopter crash, have so far reached GH¢2.315 million, a statement from the Presidency has revealed.
The Fund was announced by President John Dramani Mahama on August 15, 2025, just days after the tragedy, to provide long-term support to affected families.
Government has since expressed deep gratitude to Stanbic Bank Ghana, which seeded the Fund with an initial donation of GH¢500,000, and to a growing list of corporate donors who have followed suit.
Corporate Support
So far, contributions have come from:

Procus GH Limited
-
GB Foods Ghana
-
Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd
-
Sage Distribution Ltd
-
Quantum Oil Terminals
-
Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd
-
Newgas Cylinder Ltd
-
Quantum Terminals PLC
Officials say these early donations have set the tone for broader private-sector involvement, highlighting the role of businesses in cushioning communities during moments of national grief.
Sustaining Welfare Beyond the Tragedy
Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, emphasized that the Fund is not just a short-term relief measure but a structured support system to safeguard the future of the children left behind.
“The spirit of solidarity demonstrated by the banking sector and private companies is commendable. This Fund will ensure that these children do not fall through the cracks,” she said.
Channels for Public Contributions
To ensure transparency, government has provided dedicated accounts at Stanbic Bank Ghana for donations in both Ghana cedis and US dollars. Cheques and bank drafts can also be made payable to Children Support Fund 6825. A list of donors will be published weekly to keep the public informed.
National Solidarity in Action
For many observers, the swift contributions reflect how national tragedies can unite institutions, businesses, and citizens in common cause. Beyond the financial support, the Fund represents a collective commitment to ensuring that the victims’ children have access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for a secure future.
As the list of donors grows, the Children’s Support Fund is emerging as a model of public-private partnership in responding to national emergencies, underscoring how solidarity and shared responsibility can help rebuild lives after tragedy.
